这是位于奥克兰东区的新区 Botany Downs 的很不错的学校。
Award-Winning
Botany Downs Secondary College in East Auckland is at the cutting edge of education. Our architects won several awards for the innovative design which provides a modern learning environment.
Computer pods form the hub of each area and the new 575 Café is an internet hot spot where students serve coffee, hot chocolate and food to aid the sharing and the learning.
Special Character
Our school is built to embody the Whanau (pronounced far-no), or House system. Each student belongs to one of 6 Houses, which is their home within the school, where they are part of an extended family of teachers and students, and where they have a locker, kitchen facilities, computers, photocopying facilities, their home room, and somewhere to relax and socialise with other students.
Academic Programme
BDSC is dedicated to the pursuit of Academic Excellence. In the Junior classes, we offer the 6 core subjects of the NZ curriculum, plus a wide range of option subjects in the arts, languages, business and technology to give students a taste of all the subjects on offer.
In senior classes, we offer exciting subject choices and an opportunity to achieve in the NCEA and Scholarship examinations. Our students have high aspirations, and up to 80% of all those who do Year 12 and 13 will go on to University. Subjects offered include science, arts, business, languages and technology courses.
Extra-curricular Programme
BDSC offers a full range of sporting, arts and cultural activities. All students are encouraged to take part in this programme.
Student Welfare
Perhaps the most important reason to choose us is that we are warm and friendly and we care about every student who chooses to make their home with us for a few months or longer. BDSC has an International Student Manager and International Dean who are dedicated to the welfare of our students. In addition, the House Leader and other teachers in the student’s house will get to know them well and be available to help them when they need it.
The school also has a School Nurse, Guidance Counsellor and Careers Counsellor who are available to help students and give them advice. First language counsellors are available in some languages.
Our caring Homestay Co-ordinators visit homestays twice a year to discuss the student’s welfare and ensure an ongoing high standard of care.
We stay in contact with parents as much as possible, through email and school reports.
English Language Support
International Students are supported in ESOL classes according to their level of proficiency. We have a Reception English class for new arrivals and beginners, and ESOL classes at all Year levels. Students are tested on arrival, and placed into appropriate English classes. All levels are catered for but if students intend to enter NCEA examinations at level 1, 2 or 3, they will need to show an adequate English level. |
