The New Zealand Consulate-General in Shanghaiis seeking an experienced Administration Manager to manage the Consulate officein Shanghai. This rare leadership opportunity in a Consulate office requires aperson with a broad range of skills, and will require a talented and matureperson with at least 8-10 years’ management experience, who is ready to givefull expression of those various skills in service of the New Zealandgovernment, and the New Zealand community in China.
Shanghai is a vibrant and international city, and afocal point for New Zealand trade with China. From diplomacy and trade, to business development and cultural outreach,our work is diverse and fascinating. With 14 staff in the Shanghai office, therole requires management of the office to ensure the smooth operations of theShanghai Post, and the provision of consular services to New Zealanders. Thekey requirements of the role, include:
· managing a team of locally-employedstaff
· managing human resources,finance, property, procurement and security requirements;
· Overseeing consular services,and providing assistance to New Zealanders in China
· strengthening office systemsand processes
· maintainingclose liaison with New Zealand agencies based in Shangai (including NZTE, MPI,Immigration, Education, and Tourism) as well as the New Zealand Embassy inBeijing and Consulates in Hong Kong, Guangzhou, and Chengdu
You would be an important member of the Shanghai Postmanagement team.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced managerand administrator who wants to contribute to New Zealand’s representation inChina. The ideal person for this role will be energetic, pro-active andinnovative, with good attention to detail, and a strong customer focus. Thepreferred candidate will also be an excellent people manager, able to get thebest from their team and probably familiar with working in a public sectorenvironment. Therole requires this person to be very organised, efficient, a good writer and have strong finance skills. SomeChinese language skills would be an advantage, although a lack of language shouldnot deter a skilled applicant.
Thesuccessful applicant must hold a New Zealand passport. The position will be contractuallyagreed on local terms and conditions and applicants must have the right to workin China. The Ministry can assist with the process of obtaining the appropriatework visa, however any relocation requirements to Shanghai by an applicantcurrently living outside the city, are to be initiated and completed at theexpense of the applicant.
