    • 14 credits each, in three approved subjects
  • Literacy - 10 credits at Level 2 or above*, made up of:

2015 admission requirements

You must meet the admission requirements for your programme(s) of study.

In addition to achieving university entrance, some of our undergraduate programmes require you to have taken specific subjects and gained minimum credits in certain subjects. Some programmes have other requirements such as a portfolio, audition and/or interview.

The table below shows the rank scores required for guaranteed entry in 2015, specific subject and credit requirements and any other requirements you need for admission and selection into the University of Auckland’s undergraduate programmes.

For programmes that refer to Table A and/or Table B, use the table below.

How your rank score is calculated

You will be allocated a rank score based on your best 80 credits at Level 3 or higher over a maximum of five approved subjects, weighted by the level of achievement attained in each set of credits.

If you achieve fewer than 80 credits, the rank score will be based on those credits you have gained at Level 3 over a maximum of five approved subjects and weighted by the level of achievement. The approved subjects are determined by the NZQA and a list is available on the NZQA website.

  • The rank score will be calculated by awarding the following points for up to 24 credits in each approved subject taken at Level 3. The maximum rank score is 320.
Excellence 4 points
Merit 3 points
Achieved 2 points

  • Credits obtained in any required subjects do not have to be among the best 80 credits used for ranking purposes.
  • NCEA Level 3 credits achieved in previous years may be counted towards the 80 best credits used for ranking purposes.
  • Level 3 subject requirements for a specific programme may be met in Year 12.
  • You are strongly encouraged to take achievement standards as preparation for University study.

NCEA catch-up credits

If you are completing catch-up credits to support your Application for Admission to the University of Auckland (ie, to gain University Entrance, meet the rank score or other programme-specific requirements), your application will be reconsidered on the basis of academic merit and only if places are still available.

It is important to note that in the case of catch-up credits, selection into programme will not be guaranteed (ie, the guaranteed entry scores will no longer apply), and applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Catch-up credits are defined as credits which are completed, assessed and registered with the NZQA after the official NCEA results are released by the NZQA in January.

If you are completing or have completed catch-up credits to support your application, it is important that you make contact with the University so we are aware of this.

Please email admission@auckland.ac.nz or call 0800 61 62 63.

If your application is unsuccessful for the first semester, we would encourage you to make a new application for a future semester. Please note that rank scores and other programme-specific requirements may change year-on-year, so please ensure you continue to check our website for the most up-to-date information.
